The importance of setting up your pitch correctly
The aim
Ensure that your pitch conforms with the RFU guidelines.
Pre-season tips
- Check on any changes to the pitch dimensions set out by the RFU or Regional league.
- The recommended main playing direction is approximately north (between 285° and 20°) / south, to minimise the effects of sun on the players.
- For marking the pitch, check with the grounds person and assist where possible.
- Check the basic principles of line marking.
Check:
- Pitch orientation
- Pitch dimensions
- Condition of posts, post protectors & flags.
- General condition of pitch.
- Condition of line marker.
- Availability of line marking paint.
- The presence and viability of basic equipment.
- Mark out pitch.
