The importance of setting up your pitch correctly

Ensure that your pitch conforms with the FA guidelines.
💡 Pre-season tips
- Check on any changes to the pitch dimensions set out by the FA or local league.
- The recommended main playing direction is approximately north (between 285° and 20°) / south, to minimise the effects of sun on the players.
- For marking the pitch, check with the groundsperson and assist where possible.
- Check the basic principles of line marking.

- Pitch dimensions
- Condition of posts, nets & flags.
- General condition of pitch.
- Condition of line marker.
- Availability of line marking paint.
- The presence and viability of basic equipment.
- Mark out pitch.
📏 Dimensions
- Line width is normally 100mm or 4 inches.
- Goal lines should be the same width as the goal posts and crossbar.
- Dimensions are to the outside of the lines as this is the boundary of the playing area.
