Playing season essentials
August – May
✅ Debris: inspect and remove litter, twigs and leaves from your playing surface
✅ Mowing – mow at least once per week during the growing season (Mar-Oct) but reduce mowing during drought periods or when grass stops growing during the winter. Maintain the grass height between 25-35mm when growing. No more than a third of the grass leaf should be mown at one time to minimise turf stress and to reduce the build-up of clippings on the surface. Increase grass height during the winter.
✅ Line marking: over mark lines as and when needed, ideally weekly during the growing season.
✅ Goal Posts: inspect goalposts and sockets weekly to check they’re safe and secure.
✅ Brushing/grooming: Regular brushing and pitch grooming whenever you’re able and conditions are dry enough.
✅ Pre-match inspections – check post safety, inspect pitch surface and line markings.
✅ Post-match or post-training Session: replace divots, tidy or repair worn areas especially goal mouths and penalty, corner or centre spots.
✅ Fix divots: repair the pitch after all matches and training sessions by repairing divots with a fork.
✅ Machinery (repairs and maintenance).
November – February
✅ Machinery – when your machinery isn’t in use during November – February, service and repair your machines. .
