Non-playing season essentials

May – July

✅ Pitch renovations: If you have access to water, carry out more comprehensive works to pitches such as over-seeding and sand dressing.

✅ Non-playing season mowing: Keep your grass a little longer than normal during close season, 30-40mm would be ideal. A good rule of thumb would be between 5-10mm longer than playing height.

✅ Pre-season mowing: In the weeks leading up to the start of the season, gradually reduce the height of the grass back down to your in-season height of cut.

✅ Irrigation: avoid the heat of the day and focus on watering the most-worn areas of your pitch (usually this will include the goalmouths).

✅ Non-playing season is a good time to refurbish or replace goal posts as required. It may also be necessary to replace goal nets.

✅ Marking out: make sure you know what size pitches you need for the coming season and use our line marking video guide for best practice on marking pitches from scratch. There are also companies that will offer GPS line marking to get your pitches marked.
